Bellbird chimes
the gentle birth
of a new day

I awoke to the faintest light glowing through silhouetted tree trunks; bathing the walls with their first thin wash of colour.

Gradually the sky changed hue and the colours deepened.

As my eyes adjusted and my body built up anticipation, the sunlight burst with a watery dazzle above the soft curves of distant hills.

Here is the sound of the Bellbird, chortling in delight at the freshness of life.  (Among other New Zealand birds, and if you listen long enough, cicadas which remind me of summers gone.)
